According to “The Association of Food Industries” (AFI), that establishes the rules and standards of cashew nuts, cashews must be sold through two criteria; Physical Features (whole or broken) and Color (white, pale ivory, dark ivory & slightly toasted).

Our cashew nuts can be found in many sizes and types, being classified as Whole, Broken, Granulated or Butter.

Whole

SLW | Super Large Whole

Is classified as SLW, the whole kernel, that have at most 180 nuts per pound

LW | Large Whole

Is classified as LW, the whole kernel, that have at most 190-210 nuts per pound

W240 | Whole 240

Is classified as W240, the whole kernel, that have at most 220-240 nuts per pound

Is classified as W320, the whole kernel, that have at most 300-320 nuts per pound

Broken

B | Butts

Kernels that have been transverse broken and have at least 38% but no more than 78% of a whole kernel. Its cotyledons are still naturally together.

S | Splits

Kernels that have been broken lengthwise. At most, 1/8 of its cotyledon have been separates.

Kernels fragments that have been retained on a 1/4” sieve. Piece has its two cotyledon broken and seperated.
